Amiga98 log of NewTek rep. joining the channel ....

Hi there,

for those not beeing on an #amiga98 channel, here is a log of Q&A given
to/by Newtek rep.
I can't provide you with log of J. Torre session for just two reasons:

1) I came late to this session
2) I had a bad feeling JT was speaking like a poet, saying everything
and nothing

Maybe just my opinion!

Heh, I used following REBOL script to delete unwanted lines from the
mirc log file:
(I know it doesn't matter, just an example :-)

REBOL [
Title: "Clearing not interesting stuff in the logged session
(mirc) ..."
Comment: "Don't like creating headers ...."
]

i: 1
str: load/lines %amiga98.log

while [not tail? str] [

if (copy/part first str 3) == "***" [remove str] else [str: skip str 1 ]

] ; end of while --- just a comment :-)

save/lines %clear.log head str

So, here we go ...

<Gte> dpence is With New-Tek.
<dpence> Hello all I am Don Pence with NewTek
<dpence> So I understand you may have some things to ask me.
<Gte> <AmigaInfo> dpence: Tell us what NewTek has planned for us Amiga
users?
<dpence> We will continue to support existing product base for the
users.
<dpence> There is a great deal of interest to see wht tha market
<dpence> changes with the intor of PPC
<dpence> We are certaily liiking at it for the future
<dpence> I think that most of you want to hear a date or a plan for some
new
<dpence> announcement
<dpence> but at this point we are still watching
<dpence> to see what will happen with the technology
<dpence> just like everyone else
<dpence> Ia there anything specific that everyone would like to see?
<Gte> <CAS> Will Lightwave 5.5 come for the Amiga ?
<dpence> That will depend upon the flow of new hardwar and the PPC
technology into the marketplace.
<dpence> We are looking into the costs of doing a port but basing it on
many factors
<Demoulous> *Tadeusz* What is Newteks view on the pre/box?
<dpence> I a not aware of all of the impications of the pre/box
<dpence> Not aal announcements get to all of us at the company
<Demoulous> *Dracvl* Isn't the Quad-PPC an interesting concept?
<dpence> Yes, and our development team has several members who are
waiting to get their hands on it.
<Gte> <AmigaRevi> Are you going to support PowerUp solution or even
considering supporting the "mulitprocessing" PowerUp cards? What is your
relation to P5?
<dpence> Our relationships with P5 are not known to me as far as any
type of formal
<dpence> agreements of any kind
<dpence> Some of the members have PPC units from P5
<Demoulous> <Arcade> I've read some announcement from NewTek which
stated that there is no 24 bit standard for the Amiga, but obviously
there is CyberGraphX and Picasso96. Any comments on that?
<dpence> and they seems to be very excited with the capabilities
<dpence> I don't have a comment on that
<Demoulous> Any more questions ppl?
<Demoulous> *Tadeusz* q: are you currently developing anything at all
for the amiga? or do you see it as a dead market? Will there be ANY
upgrades for the Amiga Flyer/Toaster/LW this YEAR ?
<dpence> There are teams workign on augrades but the development staff
is kept
<dpence> away from most of us. announcements of new releases are
protected much mor than they used to be
<Demoulous> *dooz* If enough peopel buy PowerUP cards, will you consider
supporting that powerfull concept? or in your opinion have enough shown
interest to make it already viable
<dpence> I was told my management that based on what I could tell them
about this show
<dpence> that they felt evaluating that development of certain products
for amiga ppc should be looked into
<dpence> <The reaction of this show and the things that <I was able to
learn
<dpence> have been interesting
<dpence> As always
<Demoulous> <AmigaRevi> And what is your impression from this show? Have
you held any talks with people from AInc.?
<dpence> Newtek appreciates all of the support of the amiga marketplace
<dpence> It has with out a doubt been our home for many years
<dpence> There should be no question that we will always find a way to
support it
<dpence> If it were a matter of just doing what our hearts told us to do

<Demoulous> *taza* Will TVPaint be bundled with a new release of the
Toaster/Flyer/LW Amiga Packages ?
<dpence> and we didn't have to adhere to business practices
<dpence> we wouldl already have the newt ports out.
<dpence> We have to be realistic and place resources onto things that
will continue to pay our employees and the bills
<dpence> I atold that we have to wrap up now
<dpence> You may feel free to mail me with anything at
<dpence> dpence@ns1.newtek.com
<Gte> Thanks very much for your time Dpence :)
<Demoulous> well let me say on behalf of the other ops that that was a
very interesting chat, we look foward to seeing more from Newtech very
soon
<dpence> I will be back in the off on the 23rd after SeyBlod
<dpence> Thanks for the time with you.
<dpence> Don Pence - treining coordinator NewTek
<Demoulous> well that was a tad more interesting that what we have had
so far, nothing concreate but if he's realy been sent out to scout the
marked for a return then its great to se he's positive aobut it
